The freshly washed walls shone in the dark
The wind blew through curtains, laundered and starched
The table was laid with the best china set
Two candles stood guard, waiting to be lit
The food on the table was fit for a king
Newly polished silver gleamed
She sat there waiting, in her blue satin gown
Her hair, swept on top of her head, in a crown
She played with the pearls that decorated her neck
She sat there and waited, and, quietly, she wept
