The Law of the Land

The Good Book says we must oblige

By the law of the land we must abide

And you know I'm trying to do my best

I gave up the powder and the pills and the rest

I traded my bar stool for this old recliner

And I don't mean to be such a whiner

But please don't take my bud

I gave up the whiskey, the beer and the gin

Stopped paying the price for the wages of sin

I quit running down the road in the middle of the night

I'm not looking for trouble and I don't want to fight

So let's get right down to the point

All I want is another joint

Mister, please don't take my bud

I don't have much to bitch about

But this one thing I can't do without

Don't take away my meager stash

Because I'm getting pretty short on cash

And my dealer won't front me any more

Until I lay some greenbacks at his door

So don't you touch that bud!
