The Fool

I guess you could say that I’ve been a fool
Broken every golden rule
I committed the crime
And I’ve done my time
And time can be so cruel
Cheap thrills and designer pills
Which kind would you like
Dirty deeds and shady deals
What you can’t buy you steal
Pick your poison, name your price
Anything you like
We’ve got what it is you need
To get you through the night
You wash your hands
But they don’t come clean
Blind your eyes but you still see
Cover your ears yet still you can hear
What is it you fear
Dirty little nasty habits
We all have a few
Skeletons deep in the closet
I know that you do
Shameful acts from hidden pasts
Can’t seem to forget
Dirty deeds on darkened streets
Fills you with regret
What you did or didn’t do
Makes a most unpleasant brew
A slowly sinking summer sun
The ever-present smoking gun
Everybody has their vice
And everybody has their price
I guess you could say that I’ve been a fool
Broken every golden rule
I committed the crime
And I’ve done my time
And time can be so cruel
