Mary's Garden

You go which way the wind blows

It matters not the way

You cannot tame a wild rose

And train it to obey

Any way the wind blows

It doesn't matter where

Look how Mary's garden grows

She doesn't have a care

You cannot cage a wild thing

And put it on display

You can clip her dirty wings

But you can't make her stay

You can't catch a wild thing

And keep it on a chain

Bind her up with apron strings

You'll only cause her pain

Your best-laid plans are sure to fail

She'll only smell a rat

Anticipating your betrayal

Avoiding every trap

If you love her, set her free

Let her spread her wings a bit

If it's really meant to be

You know she won't forget
